Traditional block-print technique from Gujarat, India. This woodcut originated in the Sindhi region of Pakistan. It features geometric patterns with motifs of Islamic flowers, clouds, and waves. Ajrak is derived from the word “Azrak” which means blue in Arabic. It was a cloth, primarily used by Muslim men, carried around the waist (runge), turban, shoulder, and sometimes wrapped in vegetables. Block Print:These Ajrak prints are created by the Khatri Katri community in Sindhi, Pakistan, Kutch, Gujarat, India, and Barmer, Rajasthan. Natural dyes are used & hand-block printing, dyeing, indigo, and koi dyeing are performed in about 20 processes. All processes are done by craftspeople. To get the desired patterns on the textiles, woodcuts have detailed engraved geometric designs that are pressed repeatedly using various designed woodblocks. Craftspeople tend to have rhythmic movement during the process of engraving into the wood & during the printing process. NATSUMI-YA.This NATSUMI-YA collection uses a selection of block-printed fabrics that NATSUMI-YA herself spent two seasons visiting around the workshops in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Unique and beautiful hand-crafted prints that you can’t find in other brands. It’s sure to be a popular garment from your wardrobe!
